Application Info

 

Students who are interested in the UCDC Program must complete the online application in order to be considered for admission. The online application can be accessed in the "Apply Now" section.

Deadline:

  • DEADLINE IS SEPTEMBER 18, 2020 AT 11:59 PM FOR SPRING 2021 APPLICANTS
  • Submit all application materials before the deadline.
  • Deadline for Letters of Recommendation is September 18, 2020 by 11:59pm, they should be emailed to ucdc@ucmerced.edu.

*Please keep in mind that UCDC for Spring 2021 will be held remotely. You can learn more about the UCDC Remote experience here

Selection Criteria

  • Junior or Senior Standing in participating semester preferred
  • Must be in Good Academic Standing (3.0 GPA or above preferred)
  • Accepted students must maintain Good Academic Standing prior to leaving for Washington D.C.

Interview

  • Qualified applicants will be contacted to participate in an interview.

UCDC Application Instructions

1. Complete Online Application Form

2. Personal Statement

  • Two pages, double spaced essay regarding the following (please try and answer all the questions in your personal statement):
  • How would studying in Washington, D.C. help you achieve your academic goals?
  • How does the UCDC Program fit in your graduation requirements?
  • What type of agency or organization would you like to intern at?
  • What type of experience would you expect to gain?
  • What are your plans after graduation and how will the UCDC Program help you achieve your goals?
  • What unique qualities can you bring to UCDC Program?

4. Transcript

  • Unofficial transcript is acceptable.
  • To digitize your transcript, you can scan an official copy or copy and paste an unofficial copy from your MyUCMerced Portal into a Word document.
  • Accepted students must maintain Good Academic Standing prior to leaving for Washington D.C.

5. Writing Sample

  • Submit a five-page writing sample
  • The sample should demonstrate your ability to research a topic and analyze the data collected and your ability to write clearly about your findings.

6. (2) Letters of Recommendation

  • Two letters of recommendation are required for each applicant.
  • One letter must be from a UC Merced faculty member.
  • Letters must be submitted by writers directly to the Program Coordinator, at ucdc@ucmerced.edu

7. Academic Advising Form

  • Academic Advising Form is available below.
  • You must meet with your academic advisor and complete the Academic Advising Form.
  • You are required to meet with your academic advisor to determine if the UCDC Program fits into your degree plan, as well as your overall academic and professional goals.
