UCOP developed 2024-25 UCDC budgets based on the Standard Methodology Budgets we develop for campuses during the regular academic year. They used the systemwide average as a baseline for calculation, as the Washington DC cost of living (COL) index is equivalent to the weighted systemwide COL index in California. Costs will vary based on personal needs, spending habits, and living accommodations.
Notes:
1Actual tuition, fees, and charges are subject to change by the Regents of the University of California and could be affected by increases or reductions in State funding or other developments.
2Per term cost of system average SHIP estimate (subject to change after UC SHIP finalizes their premiums for the year).
3$575 for flight and fees, plus a ground transportation allowance of $363 for quarter students and $450 for semester students. The ground transportation amount was determined from weighted responses to the UCDC participant survey, which factors in sightseeing travel to locations outside of DC, and includes a small add-on for taxi/uber. Flight cost was calculated using Fare Detective cost averages from CA to DC airports.
4Per-term cost for grocery, snacks, phone, etc. Summer fees include UCDC housing charge.
5Business Attire Household Supplies One-time Expenses (bedding, etc.)
Financial Aid
The UC Merced Financial Aid Office calculates aid awards to meet the needs of students participating in the UCDC program. The UCDC program recommends that students consult with the financial aid office to determine their individual need and eligibility as it relates to the UCDC program costs.
